VARSITY RAIDERS Down MT Lebanon
April
24:
The
Varsity Raiders downed Mt. Lebanon Friday night 10-5 to
remain undefeated in western Pennsylvania. Seneca Valley
had never beaten the Blue Devils – a team they met in the
Western Pennsylvania championship last year. Four different
Raiders scored on the night and 5 of the 10 goals were
assisted. Defense and goaltending were outstanding, turning
in 8 difficult saves while holding Mt. Lebanon’s normally
high-powered offense to only 13 shots on goal.

With their
8-7 victory over previously unbeaten north Allegheny this
past Wednesday night, the Raiders also clinched the Division
1, Section 2 (North) regular season title.

VARSITY Clinches Section Title with Win over NA
April
22:
This past
Wednesday evening, Seneca Valley Boys Lacrosse took another
step toward solidifying its role as a leader in the sport in
Western Pennsylvania. With it's second win in a row over
North Allegheny (and our second win ever against NA), our
varsity team secured the WPIAL Division - 1 North Section
regular season title...Our first regular season D-I section
or conference championship. (The prior win over NA put us
into the W.PA Championship game last season, another
first). You can see that the momentum is positive in the
program.
Wednesday's game was another watershed moment, but not just
for SV Lacrosse, but for the sport in general in Western
PA. In speaking with many people who have been around the
sport in our area for many years, none can remember seeing a
crowd at a regular season lacrosse game that rivaled it.
Not only was there a good representation from both teams'
parents, but there was a large turnout of fans, lots of
fellow students, many from the SV baseball team, players and
coaches from Sewickley Academy, Pine Richland, Bethel Park,
(and these were the ones who were wearing the school colors,
I'm sure there were more.) There were also lacrosse coaches
from the local colleges in attendance to watch the game.
This might not sound like a big deal when you compare it to
a Friday night football game around these parts, but it is a
big deal for lacrosse. In Western PA, the sport is becoming
not just a great game to play, but it is becoming a
legitimate spectator sport that has a following beyond mom
and dad and occasional grandparent.
