Mission of the Junior and Micro Program:

The Junior and Micro Program is designed to make children fall in love with sport and competition. Players should play in every game unless their abilities and the game situation make it unsafe for them. The primary goal of our Junior and Micro athletic program is to develop athletes, build sport specific skills, and most importantly, educate the students to love and cherish every competitive opportunity. Again, consultation with varsity and JV coaches is important for a seamless transition through our entire program.

Junior Program information

Here is an outline of the upcoming season for our 3rd and 4th graders. Some of this was covered at our meeting last week, but this should help summarize where we are right now.

 1. Practices - our first practice is this Saturday, March 6th from 12:00-2:00pm. We will be practicing on the parking lot at Haine Elementary School for the first two weeks or so until we can get on the fields. Weekday practices will be Monday and Wednesdays; 5:00-7:00p (or earlier if too dark). In total, we will have three Saturday practices (March 6th, 13th and 20th), and then just go to the weekdays once the games begin. We will move our weekday practices to 5:30-7:30 once daylight permits (most likely April).

 2. Practice Locations - as stated above, we will start at the Haine School parking lot for the first few weeks, but switch to the Linder Fields at Cranberry Park once the snow melts and we can see the grass. We appreciate your flexibility with the different

locations - it will be needed as we are doing our best to work with what mother nature has provided. We do, however, need to get sticks in the players hands, so we have to start now.

 3. Teams - we will have two 3-4 grade teams of equal strength. The coaches and coordinators will review the selection process with the players during the first few practices.

 4. Games - our first set of games is scheduled for the weekend of  March 27th and 28th. The schedule will be posted on the web-site in a few days. Home games will be played at Graham Park for the most part.

5. Equipment - Helmet, mouthpiece, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, stick and protective cup are required. Optional - rib pads. Players should bring tennis shoes and cleats to all practices so we can be flexible with field surfaces as needed.  Please bring all equipment to all practices including this Saturday.  Tennis shoes for all parking lot practices. **Please put a piece of tape with your child’s name across the top of his helmet. This will give us a way to identify him during practice.**

 6. Uniforms - Most uniforms have been picked up.  I have the rest and will distribute at practice Saturday.

 7. Pictures - we have March 13th as our tentative schedule - most likely at the HS gym - more info to follow on times. That is it for now - please continue to check you emails for updates as they become available.

Junior and Micro Practice Information

Youth  and Junior practices (Grades 3-6) are scheduled to start on Saturday, March 6th.  Due to the current field conditions, we will conduct the first two weeks of practice on the Haine Elementary School back parking lot.    The practice schedule is as follows for the next two weeks:

  • Saturdays (March 6th, 13th and 20th) 12:00 - 2:00p

  • Weekdays (Mondays and Wednesday) 5:00 - 7:00p

Micro Practice (Grade 1-2) will be postponed for 1 week and will start on Saturday March 13th and follow the same schedule and venue as the youth teams shown above.

Practice times will shift to 5:30-7:30p as daylight permits for the weekdays, and practice field locations will change to the Linder Fields at Cranberry Park as soon as the snow melts.  At this point, all home games will be played at Graham Park.

Teams - the coaches will be using the first two weeks to select teams as follows:

  • One 1st and 2nd grade team

  • Two 3rd and 4th grade teams with the talent spread equally

  • Two 5th and 6th grade teams - one 5/6A team and one 5/6B team.  The teams will be separated based on current skill and experience level.

Rosters will be posted on the web-site once the selection process is complete.
