Mission of the Varsity Program: |
|
All
athletes are expected to put forth their best effort always
whenever they are representing Seneca Valley. We will strive
to compete for WPIAL & PIAA championships in lacrosse, while
upholding our ideals of sportsmanship, respect, commitment,
and integrity. Coaches are not expected to give equal
playing time. Playing time should be based on performance.
At the same time, whenever possible, allow players as much
playing time as their ability and the game situations
permit. It would be better if a player played on the JV,
than sat on the bench on the varsity. This is a competitive
experience where achievement and outcome are a high
priority. |

Raiders Beat Sewickley Academy
12-7 in PIAA Quarters
June 5, 2010: Just
like the regular season 15-6
win, Seneca Valley Raiders
wasted no time in putting the
current WPIAL champions down 4-0
early in the 1st quarter of
their PIAA Quarterfinal matchup.
The Raiders were never in danger
of losing the lead throughout
the game by dominating all
facets of play. Strong
goaltending and a relentless
defense shutdown SA's vaunted
offense. SV's midfield and
attack dominated transitions and
scored from all angles against
SA's All-American
defense/goaltending crew.
The win over Sewickley Academy
sends Seneca Valley to the PIAA
Semifinals against LaSalle
College High School. This
is the first time a Western PA
team has reached the PIAA
Semifinals. PIAA Semifinal
is scheduled for June 8th at 6PM
at Memorial Field State College.

Raiders Beat North Allegheny in
Overtime 10-9
April
28, 2010:
The Raiders took on their section rival North Allegheny in a
game that would help to determine who would win the section
title. NA came out fired up and pressured SV
throughout the game. SV went into halftime down one
goal. Goaltending was key to keeping the game close in
the first half. Throughout the second half both teams
caused and made multiple turnovers and penalties. This
caused the game to be fast paced with only a small number of
offensive sets by either team. The score went back and
forth throughout the half with the Raiders taking a two goal
lead into the final two minutes. NA rallied and tied
the game sending it into overtime. SV was able to
control the faceoff and score a goal early in the overtime.
Final score 10-9.

SV Dominates #4 Manheim 13-8; Moves to
#9 in PA, #96 in US
April
23, 2010:
On a beautiful evening for lacrosse and in front of one of
the largest boys' lacrosse crowds ever, two of the top teams
in PA faced off. What has become a staple of Raiders
lacrosse this year, the boys' started slowly in the first
quarter but then dominated the second quarter. Once
the Raiders had the lead in the second quarter, they never
relinquished it. The final score was 13-8.
Excellent goaltending and faceoff controls highlighted the
evening. Defense and transition was relentless causing
multiple Manheim turnovers, forcing bad passes, and not
allowing Manheim to get inside shots. The offense was
its most aggressive so far this year, scoring from the
inside and outside by moving the ball around to fend off
double teams.
Great job
this week by the players and coaches with two big wins for
the program. With these two wins, the Raiders move to
#9 in PA, #96 in the US rankings and most importantly being
focused on the goal of staying on top in the WPIAL.

Raiders Play Well in Win Over
Sewickley Academy
April
21, 2010:
In a matchup of the top two teams in the D1 North Section,
the Raiders took on Sewickley Academy. After falling
behind 4-3 at the end of the 1st quarter, the Raiders
silenced Sewickley Academy's offense and fire engine siren
in the 2nd quarter by scoring 7 goals to SA's 0 goals.
The Raiders continued their strong defense and offensive
scoring in the second half. The final score was 15-6
giving the Raiders the outright lead for the D1 North
Section title. The game was highlighted by an overall
team effort: tough defense, relentless offense, great
goaltending, and dominate transitions. Great job
by the players and coaches.
